In the tower, Marea climbed almost on her grandmother's heels. She'd tried to convince Ynarra to let her go first, but the old woman had been adamant, so the Candeliana Mistress did the next best thing and hovered close to her. Hopefully, if necessary, the young Witch could level a spell around her Gran's skirts at any enemy they encountered from the front. At the first landing, there was nothing but a torch sconce where an electric light was now amateurishly wired. The second landing was exactly the same, and Marea began to worry a little that the Traitor would have a small cadre of soldiers outside her door as bodyguards.
As the two Witches discovered on the fifth floor, Marea had been completely correct. There were six Yelaadim, all female, all alert and with swords held ready. One also had a crossbow, and one, oddly, a bucket.
