The blooming Demeter and her sweet daughter Persephone presides over the Great Mysteries of life and death. Both "Great Goddesses" were the central figures of the Eleusinian Mysteries that predated the Olympian pantheon.
Glorious Demeter's greatest gifts to mankind were agriculture, particularly of cereals, and the Mysteries which give the initiate higher hopes in this life and the blessed afterlife in the realm of Elysium. These two gifts were intimately connected in Demeter's myths and mystery cults.
Well-girdled Demeter's emblem is the poppy, a bright red flower that grows among the barley.
The gentle Demeter is called the queen among Goddesses!
