|Founded: 1820 (23rd state). Capital: Augusta. Abbreviation: ME. Okay, I'm probably getting in way over my head here, but I'm beginning a series of personifications of the U.S. States! First up is Maine, the New England state at the northeastern tip of the (contiguous) United States. Maine is a watery state, with a long coastline and many miles of rivers and streams; but it's also known for its abundance of forests. (It's actually nicknamed "the pine tree state"!) I tried to represent both of these aspects in the doll; and also, I tried to recreate Maine's flag around her. She's sort of shaped like the state, as well, which I'm going to try to do in this series! In her hair is a White Pine Cone, the official flower of Maine; she's holding a handful of Wild Maine Blueberries, its official berry. She is accompanied by a moose and a lobster, two animals associated with Maine; and I added a lighthouse in the background.
