|Amandil ("Devoted to Aman", Quenya) was the 18th and last Lord of Andúnië. When he was young, he was friends with Ar-Pharazôn, who kept him on the council despite knowing that he was one of the Faithful. Amandil also won renown as a sea-captain. However, after Ar-Pharazôn had marched into Mordor and taken Sauron captive, Sauron began to plunge Númenor into darkness, and Amandil was forced to leave. He returned to Rómenna, where he secretly gathered all the Faithful. When he learned of the king's plan to assault Aman in SA 3319, he summoned his son, Elendil, and told him of his plan to sail west and seek aid from Manwë, instructing his son to prepare ships to leave Númenor should the time come. Upon his departure, he pretended to sail east before turning around. He and his companions were never seen again.
