I walk down the sidewalk in the town's shopping district. I see the little bakery down the street, so I decide to pop in to say hello and get a doughnut. I'm not really doing anything anyway. Inside, I go behind a blonde boy in line. He's the only person in front of me, thankfully. I don't think I've seen him around much. Is he new here? As he orders, I realize I recognize the voice, but I don't know how to place it.
The boy receives the cup of coffee he ordered and pays. Baker Chi says, "Goodbye, Armin." In her sweet yet robotic voice. Armin?! I tap him on the shoulder and he turns, startled. "Ah-! Emmaleigh!" He exclaims, wide eyed. He regains his composure as I say smiling, "Armin, I barely recognized you! What happened to the hair?" I touch the now short golden hair for good measure. He blushes, "It was getting in the way, so I cut it. D-does it look weird?" His eyebrows knit together in worry. I shake my head. "It looks great," I tell him.
He lights up. "Really? I'm glad you think so, Emma," Armin says happily. Doughnut forgotten, I ask, "Are you busy or would you mind taking a walk with me?" He nods. "All right, that's not a problem."
We spend a couple hours just walking and talking. It's nearing noon now, and Armin says, "I'd really love to stay, but I told Eren I'd meet him at the mall to get something for Hanji's birthday even though he's two weeks late." I wave, "That's fine! I had fun." He nods and blushes. "So did I. I was wondering..." He trails off and I poke his arm. "What?" I ask. His cheeks redden more as he yells, "I was just wondering if you'd want to go on a real date with me sometime!" Then he salutes. I giggle at his habit. When he gets worked up, he does that like he's in the army or something. I forgot that he asked me anything, so I scramble to say, "Of course! Yes, of course!" He sighs in relief as he runs the opposite direction. He jogs backwards and waves, beaming. Today was a good day, I think to myself as I turn to go home.
