The fire burns bright in front of me, warming my bare cheeks. I pull the blanket over my chest some more as I snuggle against Armin. Natsu nonchalantly blasts tiny fireballs into the pit, whining, "This is boring! We need some scary stories or something!" Mikasa jumps at the chance in her calm, cat-like way. "It isn't scary," She says quietly, "But it is about Eren." Everyone leans in to her as she speaks. Eren groans.
"His mother would always tell me the story of his birth.
His parents were so excited that they had a boy. They had waited for so long to have this baby. His mother had had several miscarriages before, as well. So when their son was born, they weeped in happiness. As the doctor delivering him cleaned him up, Carla couldn't wait to see his face. As the doctor handed Eren to his mother, she moved the blankets away. With the expression he had on his face, you would think he already wanted to kill all the titans. Eren, do it like your mother would want you to." As Eren sighs, we see his face turn from annoyance to pure anger. Pursed lips, eyebrows tilted down, and cheeks puffed out. Everyone burst into laughter, even Mustang, who was just there for the fire and nothing else.
Natsu pouts after his laughter ceases, "I said scary stories though. It's Halloween, we need some scares!" Happy waddles over to Natsu. He roasted way too much fish and ate them all. "Natsu, you should tell a scary story," He says, tugging on his shirt. As Happy finishes, Natsu bursts into flames. "I've been waiting for that!" He jumps onto the stool he was sitting on.
"This salesman walks into Magnolia, super nice old man and everything, with a black dog at his side. He sold his stuff, friendly to everyone. There happened to be a murder at one of the places he had sold something at, and so the town blamed him. The townspeople didn't think anyone from there could ever do such a terrible thing, so they found the old salesman and tortured him. They beat him with magic and weapons alike, ignoring his pleading of innocence. Soon he died, and his big black dog howled and cried for his companion. About a week later, they both disappeared.
"One of the men who had beat him walked by the warehouse they had used as a torture chamber. He smelled rotten flesh, and the displeasing scent of wet dog. His feet moved on their own, forcing him into the building. The smell got worse here, and the man looked for anything that could be causing the stench. Then, he realized he was where he had beat the salesman. He heard growling from behind him. Deep, throaty growls, full of anger. The last thing he saw was jaws clamping on his face. No one found him for weeks, so he lay there dead. When someone at last dared to venture inside, it turned out that woman tortured the salesman as well. She suffered the same fate as the man before her.
"Soon, every single person who took part in the beatings died or had something happen to them. One man's pregnant wife was found dead, with the unborn baby ripped from her insides. People say you can still sometimes hear the howls from inside that warehouse..." As Natsu finishes, I hear "BOO!" Come from the other side of the fire, then a shriek. It was Gray scaring Juvia out of her skin. She turned to water, immediately extinguishing the fire before us. A chorus of disappointed sighs emit from the circle.
"Don't worry guys! I can save the fire!" Natsu yells. I look over to Mustang and he shakes his head. He must've gotten wet from Juvia, because he snaps but nothing happens. Natsu does some sort of dance around the pit, shooting fireballs from his fingers at random intervals. The sight looks like a ritual to the fire gods. Edward yells out, "Let's get a move on it, Salamander!" Natsu finishes his odd dance with a large fireball right into the middle of the pit.
Our fire was up again, and everything was fine. I call out, "So who's next?"
