It happened many years ago, the collapse. Humans had no solid proof that angels and demons existed until forty years ago when the skies broke apart and Heaven’s inhabitants began to fall from the sky, when the ground cracked open and demons emerged from Hell. Cut off from their homes the angels and demons began losing their powers and humans, believing them to be a threat, began to murder and imprison them. Most died. Those that survived went into hiding. Some managed to retain some of their abilities after the collapse. No one knows why or how it happened. The angels think that God stopped believing in the human race and cast the angels from Heaven and kick started judgment day. The demons think that Lucifer, the devil, no longer wanted to rule in Hell and broke apart the veil between Hell and Earth to escape, and pulled all of Hell up with him. But the Earth didn’t scorch. All that was left was a sky that’s almost completely blocked out by a thick curtain of gray clouds. When the dust settled, almost ten years later, the World Government was established and the Division was born.
The World Government is comprised of many countries from the planet that came together during the collapse of Heaven and the veil between Hell and Earth being broken, allowing demons to walk freely. They created an army to help fight against what they could not understand and control. When the events occurred, psychics began to rise. The World Government feared a superior species of humans, and therefor began to secretly sterilize humans that carried the gene that made psychics and stopping more from being born. They also set regulations against existing psychics, preventing them from marrying and having children with other psychics. Once they achieved what they believed to be a victory against the fallen, demons and other paranormal creatures that emerged, they created the Division to control the population of paranormals and psychics, all while using them to combat what was left of the fallen and demons that did not die during the war. This action resulted in the resistance forming.
After the Collapse follows the encounters of Nina Summers, Vela, Lewis Stark, Jacob, Major Edward Hill and Lieutenant Vikki Bridge with the resistance lead by the demon Lilith and their struggle with whether or not they believe that Division is doing what is right for the world.
Nina Summers- Nina was raised in rural America by her adopted parents. When her psychic abilities began to surface her adopted mother contacted the Division, where she would be taken to so that she could learn to control her power. At first she appears to display telekinetic abilities, until she begins to have vivid dreams that start coming true. Unlike most psychics who only develop one ability; she has two. This was the result of her being a second generation psychic as both of her birth parents were psychics and operatives in the Division until their deaths.
Jacob- Jacob doesn’t remember much of his life before the Division found him. He initially believes that he is a fallen angel, until he learns that all fallen angels have black wings, while his are white. He discovers that he is the product of a union between two fallen angels. He displays the common abilities found in angels such as flight, increased strength, and enhanced senses.
Vela- Vela is one of the fallen angels in the Division. She is a unique fallen as one eye is white while the other is teal. Her white eye allows her to glimpse into a person’s long term future to determine their fate. Vela’s life before she was an angel is a mystery even to Vela. She remembers being a human around the 11th century and dying young from an illness. After her death she became an angel. She was later recruited by the archangel Rafael in the fight against the devil and his demons around the 15th century. She developed a strong relationship with the archangel Michael and when they fell from heaven, they had a son. Michael sacrificed himself to save his son and gave Vela some of his powers.
Lewis Stark- Lewis was raised in the Division after his parents died during the war after the collapse of Heaven. Like Nina, he is a second generation psychic, but the truth behind his talents are hidden from the Division with help from Major Hill and Lieutenant Bridge. Lewis is a powerful telepath, which allowed him to become the head of the interrogators in Division. His other abilities are psychic navigation and the ability to see into the past and experience it as if he were there, also known as Psychometry.
Major Edward Hill- He heads the military section of the Division. Not much is known about how he came to his position in Division, other than that he was chosen to succeed the previous leader after their death. He works in secret with Lieutenant Bridge to protect Nina and Lewis from the Division finding out about how they got their multiple abilities.
Lieutenant Vikki Bridge- She is Major Hill’s right hand and the head of the bionics section of the Division. After sustaining significant injuries during the war after the collapse, she was ( )ought to Division in order to survive. She was mechanically enhanced and the majority or her organs are synthetic, along with her eyes. Her right arm is completely mechanical.
Angelica Ortiz “Angie”- She was the first person to befriend Nina when she arrived at Division. Angelica considers the Division her home as she was shunned by humans in the outside world for being a psychic. However, she also fears what would happen to her should she ever be considered useless by the Division and wash out of their program. She is an empath, able to sense the emotions of others through touch and in some cases, she can project her own emotions onto others to change their mood.
David Reid- David is a pilot in the Airborne Elite section of Division. He is very cocky and a smooth talker. He has a knack for getting himself into trouble with his superiors. He can also fly anything in sight, which is the only reason the Division hasn’t kicked him out.
Una- She was found when she was five years old by the Division when she was trying to steal some food. They offered her a home and she has lived in Division headquarters all her life. Despite Division being her savior, she doesn’t allow them to do tests on her and discover how she can do the things she can do. Una is part lizard and can blend into her surroundings to the point where she is invisible to the naked eye and climb walls.
Lilith- She leads the resistance, formed from those that oppose the Division. She is the oldest demon in existence, even older than the devil himself. She was his queen in Hell. The Division has yet to learn what her powers are, since most that come face to face with her end up dead or never seen again.
Muriel- She is a fallen angel in the resistance. She possesses the common abilities that angels possess. Vela and Muriel also have a history that neither seem to want to talk about.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Avery- He was once a soldier that fought during the war after the collapse of Heaven. He fought alongside Lieutenant Bridge. The two were close friends until their squad was decimated and they alone survived, only by the help of being bionically repaired. The majority of Robert’s body had to be replaced in order for him to live. He is more machine than man now. After months of physical therapy to adjust to his new body, he left Division, wishing he had rather died than live as an insult to humanity. Lilith found him and promised that she would make Division pay for defiling him.
