Due to an unfortunate mishap within the kingdom's postal service, a particularly spiteful fairy Godmother named Maleficent never received her invitation to the new Princess' Christening. Said fairy Godmother attended anyway & vengefully cast a curse upon Aurora, the King & Queen's infant daughter.
Luckily, there were 3 very kind, sister fairy Godmothers who arrived at the royal Christening late, rushing in just after their evil counterpart stormed out. To the best of their abilities, the 3 kind fairies each offered a blessing to the cursed baby. The eldest fairy granted her intelligence & creativity, the middle gave strength & ( )avery & the youngest gifted Aurora with kindness & empathy.
Moved by their thoughtful gifts & believing it to be the safest option, the King & Queen put their daughter into the 3 fairies' safekeeping. After spirting the infant deep into the forest, the sisters decided the best way to protect their charge was to arm her with knowledge. Aurora grew up fully aware of Maleficent's curse & was encouraged to research a solution in her Godmothers' extensive li( )ary. As any type of learning or self improvement was fully supported by the Princess' guardians, they hired a discrete, traveling knight (who happened to owe the sisters a favor) to train Aurora when she showed an interest in swordplay.
Aurora learned to fight with many different weapons (sword, bow & mace to name a few) as well as tactics & strategy. Being a confident, intelligent & capable young woman, the Princess decided to make a first strike against her enemy. Before her 16th birthday, Aurora stormed Maleficent's castle, scaled the walls & slayed the evil fairy Godmother in her dragon form. The Princess returned to her parents kingdom in triumph & as the uncontested heir apparent to the throne. When she was eventually crowned queen, she appointed her 3 Fairy Godmothers to her High Council.
Queen Aurora was very progressive for her time & encouraged education, diversity & gender equality in her queendom. As a result, she & her people were sometimes viewed as strange by the more traditional neighboring kingdoms. However, foreigners made sure no one from Aurora's realm (especially not one of her female soldiers) was present before they spoke out against it.
